Shock Treament was born in the basement of the Key West Shrimp House in late summer of 2003. It all started when my friend, Curt, aka Scruffy Ramone, asked me to teach him how to play guitar. We both love The Ramones, so I thought that would be a good place to start. I showed him a few bar chords and we started playing I Just Wanna Have Something To Do. As the lessons progressed, I asked Scott, who also works at the Shrimp House, if he would like to learn how to play bass. He jumped at the opportunity. One day I ran into an old friend, Jeff, and asked to come down and check our practices. He came down, brought his guitar, and became the 4th member of the band. Jeff loves country music so it’s been an interesting change for him to punk music. We jammed Friday nights after work and afterwards we headed down to Joey G’s to have a cold beer before heading home. Joey was excited about our band and asked us to play at his nightclub. The only problem was we had 3 guitars a bass player, but we didn’t have a singer or a drummer. Mikey, the bartender at Joey’s, accepted the position as singer and the band went forward, but we still needed a drummer. Another good friend, Mark Bear, had been drumming in the area for many years. He gladly joined the band and took the name Marky Ramone. After a while it became obvious that Mikey’s heavy work schedule, wouldn’t allow the time needed to sing for the band and with a heavy heart, he quit. Enter Davey Harmon. Dave and I have been friends for years. He is also good friends with Marky and played in bands with him over the years. Davey was discouraged because of the lack of singing opportunities in the area. Marky offered him the chance to sing. Meatball Ramone was in!! The last member of the band to was Dale Davis, aka Cuz aka Homey Ramone. I must admit, I was a little skeptical when a tambourine player showed up for practice. Tambourines and the Ramones just don’t mix. Boy was I wrong, Homey is the energizer. He gets the band and the crowd fired up! He has quickly become the most popular member of Shock Treatment. The band was finalized, but we needed a name. Some great names were put in the hat including: Madison Ramones, The Sedated, and The Undecided. We felt that Shock Treatment would kinda sum us up! As a band, we also decided we wanted to do something for the local community. Anytime we play, we donate all proceeds to the local hospital’s Hospice fund. Hospice helps cancer patients in the last days of their lives. Since Joey Ramone died of cancer, we thought this would a good tribute to him. Let’s not forget the Young Guns. The Young Guns are our “Annex Band.” They are made up of sons, friends, and relatives of Shock Treatment. The lineup currently consists of 2 drummers, 2 bass players, 2 guitar players and one singer all under the age of 19, with the youngest being 13. When we play at a venue that allows them in, we invite them to play a few songs. Playing in Shock Treatment is great fun! We all have a great time together and we all look forward to practice. We love playing the Ramones! No band can ever be the Ramones, but we do our best to capture the spirit and energy that made the Ramones the greatest punk band of all Time! Gabba Gabba, Update:
